(The USS Gypsy, one of the ships Harv did a tour on during Korea)
"And then?"
Harv: "We headed back to Pearl towing a big bunch of those barges. What a sight to see! Almost a mile of those monsters behind us. We finally got a break when a storm came up and the barges all came loose. There was no way to get them back in tow so we spent three days sinking them with our three inch gun and the forty millimeter air craft guns."
"So you guys just sat up there and fired into these behemoth monsters? It must have taken forever."
Harv: "The reason it took so long was because those things were made of many compartments. We finally got to Pearl and the Brass decided that I had enough points to get out, so back to the states I went."
"What did you take?"
Harv: "I flew back on a Navy PBY. that was a fun trip. I landed in San Francisco, then to Chicago and out. NO MORE VOLUNTEERING ANY MORE. LOL!! I was discharged from the Korean conflict on 26, Feb.,1952.
"Well Harv, thank you so much for telling your story for the family and everyone else out there that might find the career of a sailor during the wars interesting. I am truly grateful that you spent this time for us."
Harv: (Shaking hands) "You are welcome. And let me say to all out there, thank you all for your interest in my story."
